FAQ

  1. Who can participate?

    Any artist (over 18 years) regardless of their education, residence and field of visual arts they works in.

  2. What art works will be shown in the Biennial exhibition?

    We expect the works you send to engage with the Biennial theme Economy of Means through the means of humour and satire.

  3. Are art groups eligible to participate?

    Yes. If you apply collectively, please fill in the name of the group and the contact data of a representative we can communicate with. In the ‘Short Description’ field you can indicate the names of all group members.

  4. Can I submit more than one work?

    You can submit maximum two works in each section – contemporary art and cartoons.

  5. What happens with the selected works?

    The selected works are sent to the Museum. If the artists do not wish to donate their works to the Museum, the works shall be returned after the end of the Biennial.

  6. What happens with the donated works?

    They become part of the Museum collection and are shown in future exhibitions held by the Museum.

  7. Are there any restrictions as to the kind of work, media, technique and size?

    No.

  8. What are the requirements for the images uploaded through the online form?

    Depending on its type, one work may be visually represented through:

    • up to 3 images each one of which should not be larger than 5 MB, jpg, png or tiff format (the longer side of the image should be minimum 2500 px; artists whose works are selected to be shown in the exhibitions should be ready to provide images with print quality for the catalog.
    • video, by providing an Internet address where it can be viewed; if user name and password are needed, please provide them in the field for short description of the work.
    • animated cartoons (gif and flash), provided through a URL or file upload.
  9. Can I attach a video to the form?

    No. If you wish to enter a piece of video art in the competition, please publish your work on Youtube, Vimeo, and other video sharing platforms or a website selected by you and send us a link. If you do not wish your work to be visible on Internet, you can upload it there without publishing it so as to be visible only to the users you have sent a link to. For animated cartoons both providing a URL and upload of files are possible

  10. Where will the selected works be shown?

    At the Museum of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo. A selection of works will be shown in other cities in Bulgaria.

  11. Can I submit a project for a new work?

    Regretfully, we cannot afford to produce new works. Only already existent works can be entered for the Biennial.

  12. Can I submit a work that has been shown at other exhibitions?

    Yes.

  13. Are the works expected to have been created in the last year?

    No.

  14. What are the working languages for completing the form and further communication with the Biennial organizers?

    The form should be completed in Bulgarian or English.

  15. If my work is selected to be shown in the exhibition and I don’t wish to donate it to the Museum, when shall I have it returned?

    The exhibition runs until 30th September. Works shall be returned from 01.10 to 30.11 2022. They can be personally collected from the Museum as well.
