Who can participate?
Any artist (over 18 yrs.) regardless of his/her education, residence and field of visual arts s/he works in.
What art works will be shown in the Biennial exhibition?
We expect the works you send to comply with the Biennial theme, and to engage with the present day and its social, economic, political, cultural and daily issues and challenges through the means of humour and satire.
Are art groups eligible to participate?
Yes. If you apply collectively, please fill in the name of the group and the contact data of a representative we can communicate with. In the ‘Comments’ field you can indicate the names of all group members.
Can I submit more than one work?
You can submit maximum two works in each section – contemporary art and cartoons.
What happens with the selected works?
The originals of the selected works should be posted to the Museum within the indicated deadline. The postage and transportation costs are at the expense of the artists. If the latter have not expressed their will to donate their works to the Museum, the works will be returned to the artists at their expense.
What happens with the donated works?
They become part of the Museum collection and may be shown in future exhibitions held by the Museum.
What happens if I have indicated that I wish to donate my work to the Museum but it hasn’t been selected by the jury to be shown in the exhibition?
The Museum will accept as donations only works selected by the international jury.
Are there any restrictions as to the kind of work, media, technique and size?
No, as long as you can transport the work at your own expense.
What are the requirements for the images sent by means of the online form?
Depending on the type and media, works may be visually represented through:
- up to 3 images each one of which should not be larger than 4 MB, jpg or png format (your images are best represented at 1000px on the longest side and a resolution of 72ppi)
- video that can be watched online at a URL provided by the artist in the entry form
- animated cartoons (gif and flash) with duration of up to 25 seconds (provided through a URL or file upload)
Can I attach a video to the form?
No. If you wish to enter a piece of video art in the competition, please publish your work on Youtube, Vimeo, and other video sharing platforms or a website selected by you and send us a link. If you do not wish your work to be visible on Internet, you can upload it there without publishing it so as to be visible only to the users you have sent a link to.
For animated cartoons both providing a URL and upload of files are possible.
Where will the selected works be shown?
At the Museum House of Humour and Satire in Gabrovo. If you have never been to the Museum, you can make a virtual tour on its website.
Can I submit a project for a new work?
Regretfully, we are unable to play the role of producers of new works. Only already existent works can be entered for the Biennial.
Can I submit a work that has been shown at other exhibitions?
Are the works expected to have been created in the last year?
What are the working languages for completing the form and further communication with the Biennial organizers?
The form should be completed in Bulgarian or English. Questions to the organizers can be addressed in French, German and Russian to firstname.lastname@example.org
If my work is selected to be shown in the exhibition and I don’t wish to donate it to the Museum, when shall I have it returned?
The exhibition runs until 30th September. Works will be returned from 1st October until 30th November 2017 after the artist has paid the transportation costs. Works can also be collected in person at the Museum.
